Yankees @ Orioles Analysis & Breakdown

The Orioles have taken the lead from the Yankees for the AL East and don’t show any signs of slowing down.

The Yankees started the season on fire, winning 51 of their first 75 games of the year. Since then, they’ve lost 16 of their next 21 games and have lost their grip on 1st place in the AL East.

Aaron Judge has not hit a home run in the past 10 days, during which the Yankees have suffered losses in 7 out of 9 games. Furthermore, starting pitcher Gerrit Cole has only begun 4 games this season, and his performance has been subpar, to say the least.

Cole’s got a 6.75 ERA on the season and he’s given up 5 home runs in just 4 starts. He’s allowing lefties to hit 0.310 this season and the O’s have got some big left handed bats.

On the topic of the O’s, they have decided to go with the rookie, Cade Povich. So far, through 6 starts, he has a record of 1-3, an ERA of 6.51, and has allowed 6 home runs.

Povich has faced off with the Yankees once before, going 4.2 innings and finishing with a 1.93 ERA; giving up just 1 hit and 1 earned run.

It seems like it was a big of a lucky start for Povich in their last one. Despite giving up just the 1 run, he surrendered 5 walks, and recorded just 1 strikeout. Oh, and Judge wasn’t active for that one. We know what Judge does to lefties.

The last time Aaron Judge hit a home run, I was still a young 30 year old. Now I’m 31 and it’s been 10 days since he went ya-ya. The Yankees have been sliding and sliding hard, if they hope to get it together, it all starts with Judge.

You can’t be surprised, team totals have been good to us so tonight we’re turning to The Bronx Bombers. I can’t emphasize enough how bad they’ve been over the last three weeks but it’s been bad.

They lost a significant lead in the AL East, Cole has looked bad and Judge can’t hit a beach ball. So why are we looking to bet this Yankees team total? It’s this rookie pitcher for the Orioles, Cade Povich.

He’s had a few promising home starts this season, but tonight, he’s going up against a Yankees team that has lost three series consecutively and is now desperately seeking a win.

Povich has given up 5+ hits in 5 of his 6 starts this season and he’s given up 5 home runs in his last 3 starts. He’s been pretty bad and tonight he’s seeing this Yankees lineup for the 2nd time this year.

This will mark his first encounter with Aaron Judge in his career, and Judge hasn’t managed a home run since July 2nd. It’s a daunting situation for a rookie, so I’ll back the Yankees’ team total and simply root for some offensive action.
