Yankees vs Angels Predictions & MLB Picks Today (5/30)

After splitting the first two games, the Yankees and Angels will decide on a series winner tonight. New York had lost five straight road games against Los Angeles heading into yesterday’s victory, leaving time to tell what Aaron Boone’s club would do with its newfound momentum.

The good news for the Yankees is that the Angels have been dreadful throughout the 2024 season — especially at home. Not only is Los Angeles just 7-20 SU at Angel Stadium this year, but it has also dropped 15 of its last 19 home games with those defeats coming by an average margin of 3.1 runs.

The Angels are also just 2-5 SU across their last seven AL matchups while their 34.7% winning percentage against non-division opponents ranks third-worst in the MLB. Conversely, the Yankees are 10-3 SU in their 13 previous AL tilts and have the best success rate against opponents outside of their division (73.2%).

New York is also 12-7 SU as the road favorite whereas Los Angeles is 6-16 SU as the underdog at home.

The Yankees have been playing well on the road against fellow AL teams. 

The Yankees also have a tremendous chance at victory whenever Carlos Rodon makes an appearance. The two-time MLB All-Star has been fantastic throughout the season, but his play has only gotten better as time passes. In his last four appearances, Rodon is 4-0 with a 1.85 ERA while holding opposing batters to a .220/.276/.385 slash line.

Meanwhile, the Angels’ Patrick Sandoval has putrid all year. His latest performance encapsulated that fact as he surrendered eight earned runs, three homers, six hits, and three walks across 3 2/3 innings in a 10-4 loss to the Cleveland Guardians last Friday.

Considering how New York owns one of the top offenses in the Majors, it could be another brutal day for Sandoval if he doesn’t start strong.

Having said that, the Yankees will win this game. The Angels have been brutal at home and are at an immediate disadvantage whenever Sandoval starts. If New York’s batters can get at the struggling starting pitcher early, this game could be put out of reach.

That’s why I’m also taking the Yankees to cover the run line. Again, the Angels’ last 15 losses at home came by an average margin of over three runs. With Los Angeles also being outscored 17-8 on aggregate in Sandoval’s last three starts, the visitors should win by a decently sized amount.

When it comes to my Yankees vs. Angels player prop pick, I’m taking Patrick Sandoval to surrender over 2.5 earned runs (-113).

In his 11 appearances this season, Sandoval has surrendered three or more earned runs six times (54.5%). What makes this prop intriguing is that the Over is he’s allowed an average of 4.0 earned runs across five home appearances, finishing with the Over on this prop four times — including when he allowed eight less than a week ago.

With the Yankees boasting some of the most dangerous bats in the MLB, it’s safe to say another rough night is in Sandoval’s future.
