Storm vs Wings Prediction & Picks (6/13): Will Desperation Drive Dallas to a Home Win?

After falling to the Minnesota Lynx for the third time this season, the Seattle Storm got back on track on Tuesday with a 16-point win over the Los Angeles Sparks. Tonight, they will look to dispatch another bottom dweller as they visit Arike Ogunbowale and the Dallas Wings (7:00 pm ET, ESPN).

In Tuesday’s 95-79 win over the Sparks, the Storm (8-4) got a season-high 26 points from Nneka Ogwumike in her first game against her former team. Jewell Loyd (21 points, six rebounds) and Skylar Diggins-Smith (19 points, six assists, five rebounds) also provided key contributions as Seattle improved to 4-1 at home this season.

Tonight, they are back on the road, where they are 4-3 with two losses to the Lynx and a loss to the New York Liberty. Things have been a mixed bag for the Storm against the WNBA’s best teams, but they have largely handled the league’s lesser lights with relative ease.

Will that continue to be the case? The Wings (3-7) are currently mired in a five-game losing skid and haven’t won at home since defeating the Chicago Sky in their season opener.

Seattle Storm vs Dallas Wings Betting Analysis

Early on this season, injuries to key players have affected multiple teams. The Aces are floundering without Chelsea Gray, the Phoenix Mercury won only four of their first ten games without Brittney Griner, the Washington Mystics couldn’t buy a win while Brittney Sykes was sidelined, and then there’s the Wings.

In addition to being without Satou Sabally indefinitely, Dallas has been without Natasha Howard since the opener against the Sky.

That has opened the door for Maddy Siegrist (14.1 PPG, 4.3 RPG, 54.5% FG) and Monique Billings (12.7 PPG, 9.1 RPG, 2.6 APG) to take on important roles, which is valuable.

But it also has increased the team’s reliance on Ogunbowale. She is second in the WNBA in scoring (26.4 PPG) and sixth in assists (5.5 APG), as well as leading the league in steals (3.2 SPG). However, she is shooting only 36.1% from the field on 24.1 attempts per game and 30.0% from three on nine attempts per game.

When she’s hot, she can produce games like the 40-piece she dined on against the Mercury on May 25. But when she’s not, things can get ugly for her and the Wings, like last Friday when she missed all nine of her three-point attempts in an 81-72 loss at Los Angeles.

The Storm are second in the WNBA in field goal defense (40.1%), and the Lynx—who have done it twice—are the only team to shoot 45% or better from the field against Seattle this season.

Going up against one of the league’s best teams could be a catalyst for Ogunbowale to find her shot. Just as well, it could also be another long night for her. If the latter is the case, it will likely be another long, losing night for the Wings.

Seattle Storm vs Dallas Wings Prediction & Picks

Storm vs Wings Prediction: Storm to win

Storm vs Wings Picks

Skylar Diggins-Smith (Storm) under 5.5 assists (+100)

For the season, Diggins-Smith is fifth in the WNBA in assists at 5.8 APG. But after dishing six dimes against the Sparks, look for her to fall short of that number against the Wings, as she has yet to record six or more assists in consecutive games this season.

Storm -6.5

Tuesday’s win over the Sparks saw the Storm improve to 6-0 this season when scoring 80+ points in regulation. When they have done so, they have won by nine or more points five times, including wins by 32, 15, 18, and 16 points.

The Wings have allowed 80+ points in regulation in five of their seven losses this season and are next to last in the WNBA in scoring defense (85.4 PPG). If the Storm hit the 80-point mark like they should, they will likely cover the spread.
