NASCAR Xfinity Series SciAps 200 Predictions & Picks: Big Mouth Bell Bids for Fourth New Hampshire Victory

After inadvertently spilling the not-so-secretly secret information that he won’t be the only “CB” at Joe Gibbs Racing next year, Christopher Bell will be aiming to bag a couple of NASCAR wins at New Hampshire Motor Speedway this weekend, starting with today’s SciAps 200 (3:00 pm ET, USA).

With Stewart-Haas Racing shutting down at the end of this season, the team’s Cup Series and Xfinity Series drivers are up for grabs. Speculation has been rife that Briscoe will be making the move from SHR to JGR next season, and Bell all but confirmed it with a slip of the tongue yesterday.

Back to the current action on the track, Bell will be making his first Xfinity Series start of the season with NASCAR’s top two series in Loudon this weekend.

Bell is a three-time winner of this race, having won it in 2018 and 2019 when he was an Xfinity Series regular and again in 2021. Only Kyle Busch (six wins) has won this race more than Bell, and Brad Keselowski (two wins) is the only other driver to win the race multiple times.

Bell has qualified 23rd but oddsmakers are still very bullish on his chances to take the checkered flag, as he sits atop the SciAps 200 odds ahead of Chandler Smith and polesitter Cole Custer.

SciAps 200 Predictions & Picks

Last week, Sam Mayer went to Victory Lane for the second time this season as he captured the win at the Hy-Vee PERKS 250 at Iowa Speedway.

With his victory, Mayer continued a blazing hot run of form. In his last nine races, the JR Motorsports driver has seven top-four finishes, including two wins.

Will he continue that run this week at the SciAps 200? He qualified third, so you should like his chances. Notably, he is only evens at Bovada to finish in the top five and +200 for a top-three finish. That is diabolical given his recent success and where he will start in the field. That just means a great value opportunity to take full advantage of. Lock him for a top five and sprinkle some extra on a top three.

Also, despite starting on pole, Custer is just -120 for a top-five finish and +160 for a top-three finish. The defending Xfinity Series champion and current points leader just missed out on a seventh top-five finish of the season last week, settling for a 12th top-ten finish instead by coming in sixth.

This is the fourth time this season that Custer will start on pole, and while he has yet to win from pole, he has finished in the top five each time: second at Las Vegas, fifth at Phoenix, and third at Darlington. Lock him in for a top five, pronto.

Last but certainly not least, who gets the nod for this week’s winner pick? This week, the nod will go to two drivers, neither of which is Custer, as polesitters rarely find themselves in Victory Lane (unlike in Formula 1).

I’m still big on Bell’s hopes to win despite where he’ll start, but there’s no real value in backing him for the victory. Instead, I’m giving the nod to Chandler Smith, who will start second, and a frequent favorite, Justin Allgaier, who will start 12th. Smith won in Las Vegas when Custer started on pole, and Allgaier won at Darlington when Custer started on pole.
