Rockies @ Reds Analysis & Breakdown

Elly De La Cruz is leading the MLB this year with 45 stolen bases, while Brice Turang of the Brewers is in second place with 29.

The Reds and Rockies have not been elite by any metric this year. Cincinnati enters this game 5 games below 0.500 and sitting 5th in the NL Central. 

The Rockies have not shown any improvement. They presently have a 33-60 record and are at the bottom of their division. So far this season, the Rockies and the Reds have faced off 6 times, with the Reds emerging victorious in 5 of the 6 games.

Colorado’s lone win came last night, despite a late rally by the Reds that fell short in the top of the 9th inning. The Rockies will have left handed turkey tosser, Austin Gomber on the mound.

Unlike most of the Rockies’ starters, Gomber’s numbers actually get worse outside of Coors Field. He’s got a 5.44 road ERA and he’s given up 5+ hits in 9 of his L10 starts, all this season.

The Reds are set to examine Hunter Greene’s performance. Despite his 3.45 ERA and conceding 9 home runs this year, Greene has been excellent at striking out his opposition.

The Rockies, who have the 4th highest strikeout rate in the league, could face another challenging game tonight with Greene pitching.

Gomber lasted 5.1 innings, during which he surrendered 5 hits, 5 runs, and 3 home runs. The Reds’ lineup was so poor last season that Joey Votto was still a regular starter.
