Orioles vs Mets: MLB Predictions, Odds & Best Bets (8/20)
The Mets are set to host the Orioles at Citi Field today for the second game in the three-game series, after their 4-3 victory in the first match. The Orioles, who are half a game behind the other New York team in the AL East, are also leading the Twins and Royals by 2.5 games in the race for the Top Wild Card spot. Despite this, the Orioles are aiming to clinch the AL East Title.
The Mets, currently 8.5 games behind the Phillies, are only a game and a half away from second place in the NL East. They’re locked in a tussle with the Braves, the current occupants of the National League’s final Wild Card spot. However, the Braves have a challenging week ahead as they face the Phillies. New York is aware of the need to secure a series of wins to reach the playoffs, and tonight’s home game would be an ideal opportunity to advance.
New York’s starting pitcher, Jose Quintana, has greatly improved his home game performance this season, despite some recent rough games. On the other hand, Dean Kremer is the chosen starter for the Orioles, and while his performance in away games has boosted, he too has had a series of challenging starts. Will either of these starters be able to steer their teams to a win tonight? Or will the game’s outcome depend on the hitters?

Will Quintana Bounce Back at Home?
Is it possible for the left-handed Quintana to stop the Orioles’ bats?
Jose Quintana’s ERA has decreased to 3.72 at home this season, but he’s been struggling lately. He has a record of 0-2, a 6.89 ERA, and a 1.58 WHIP in his last three starts, conceding at least three runs in each start. Furthermore, he has given up four or more runs in two of his last three home games at Citi Field. Quintana may face more difficulties as Baltimore has a tendency to perform well against left-handed pitchers.
The Orioles have a .259 batting average against left-handed pitchers and their average has slightly increased to .263 since the All-Star Break. Even with Kremer as their pitcher, I predict the Orioles will manage to score some runs in this game. Although they lack top-tier hitters today, batters-box.com reports that four of their players have received a rating of great or above average. To stay competitive with the Yankees, the team must improve their performance and provide adequate run support for their pitcher.
Dean Kremer recently scored a victory but experienced four consecutive losses prior to this. His performance in his last seven games has been disappointing, with a record of 1-5 and 21 runs conceded, resulting in a 5.38 ERA since July 9th. His WHIP has also risen to 1.59 in the past month. In short, his performance has been below par. In his last three away games, Kremer has allowed three or more earned runs, and the Mets could potentially score off him. The Mets have had four victories in their last six matches, having only conceded 16 runs across those matches. However, their split results do not favor them.
The Mets have a team batting average of .250, but it drops to .246 against right-handed pitchers and further to .236 when playing at home. Their batting average for August is slightly higher at .252. However, I believe they will need to score numerous runs to defeat the Orioles tonight.

This isn’t a particularly appealing scenario, and we’re giving up some leverage for this bet, but I believe the Orioles can score 4 runs today. They’d prefer to be up against a left-handed pitcher, and with Quintana underperforming lately, this is an excellent opportunity for their hitters to make a comeback. Baltimore is aware that the Yankees are up against a challenging series with the Guardians, so making progress in this series would be highly beneficial, especially considering the Orioles’ upcoming games against the Astros and Dodgers following this Mets series.
In the end, I believe the Orioles will rally and score some points to back Kremer. I reckon they could beat Quintana’s score, but their F5 TT Over 1.5 (-165) was too rich for my taste. Instead, I’ll root for them to score 4 points throughout the full 9 innings. Let’s hope we don’t have to wait that long for a win!
