Mercury vs Sun Prediction & Picks (5/28): Eye the Over
Tonight, the lone remaining undefeated team in the WNBA will look to continue its hot start to the season. In what could be a high-scoring showdown at Mohegan Sun Arena, DeWanna Bonner, Alyssa Thomas, and the Connecticut Sun will face Diana Taurasi, Kahleah Copper, and the Phoenix Mercury (7:00 pm ET, CBS Sports Network).
Since winning their season opener against the Indiana Fever by 21 points, the Sun (5-0) have won their last four games by a total of 15 points. That includes Saturday’s 86-82 road win over the Chicago Sky, which saw Connecticut overturn an eight-point halftime deficit.
That success in close games could prove to be very valuable against the New York Liberty and Las Vegas Aces and in the postseason, and it has the Sun sitting pretty atop the WNBA standings ahead of the Minnesota Lynx (4-1) and Aces (3-1).
The Mercury (3-2) are also off to a positive start, even after giving up 107 points in a 15-point home loss to the Dallas Wings on Saturday. Kahleah Copper (32 points) and Diana Taurasi (28 points) combined for 60 points, but a monster game by Arike Ogunbowale (40 points, seven rebounds, four assists) propelled Dallas to victory.

Phoenix Mercury vs Connecticut Sun Betting Analysis
Last season, the Mercury finished last in the WNBA in scoring at 76.6 points per game.
Through five games this season, Phoenix is third in the WNBA in scoring (88.2 PPG). Even without Brittney Griner, they have reached the 80-point mark in each game thus far, which is already a game better than their best stretch of doing so last season.
Being prolific and proficient from outside is fueling Phoenix’s leap offensively. They are averaging 12.2 made threes per game, which is first in the league, while shooting 38.1% from outside, which is second in the league behind only Minnesota (38.6%).
Like the Mercury, the Sun have scored 80+ points in each of their five games this season. They rank fourth in the WNBA in scoring (86.6 PPG) despite being the league’s worst three-point shooting team (29.5%). No other team in the league is shooting below 30.0% from outside.
Connecticut is thriving despite that poor perimeter shooting because they shoot 50.4% on two-point shots. They are also making a high percentage of their foul shots while making a high volume of trips to the line.
With how both teams are getting it done on the offensive end, expect plenty of points in this matchup, with a Sun cover the likeliest spread outcome.
Phoenix Mercury vs Connecticut Sun Prediction & Picks
Mercury vs Sun Prediction: Sun to win
Mercury vs Sun Picks: 1) Sun -8, 2) Mercury vs Sun over 167.5, 3) Kahleah Copper over 2.5 made threes (-115 at Bovada), 4) Natasha Cloud over 23.5 points + rebounds + assists (-130 at Bovada)
Even after Copper went 4 of 7 from three in Saturday’s loss to the Wings, odds still have yet to be adjusted to reflect her shooting success. Bet accordingly.
The same can be said for Cloud, who had nine points, four rebounds, and a dozen assists against the Wings and has now had 29, 14, 28, 29, and 25 P + R + A this season. Keep taking the over until or unless something changes.
