Braves @ Giants Analysis & Breakdown

Travis d’Arnaud drove in the only run in the Braves 1-0 win over the Giants on Monday night.

One of the most talked about story lines of today, Jorge Soler returns to Oracle Park.

Soler just signed a 3 year $42 million contract with the Giants in February this year. Then, after just 93 games in a Giants uniform, he was traded to the Atlanta Braves.

He returns to the Braves after playing just 55 games with the Franchise back in 2021. That run, however, was capped off with a World Series win and a World Series MVP for Soler. After capturing the MVP, Soler signed with Miami, where he spent two seasons before moving to the Bay Area.

Outside of the Soler story lines, we’ve got two absolute studs on the mound for both teams today. Blake Snell will be making his 13th start of the season and he’s catching fire at the right time.

Snell’s had 6 starts since July 1st and in those 6 games he’s posted a 1.15 ERA, given up just 12 total hits, and just 5 runs; with the Giants winning 5 of these 6 starts.

Opposite Snell will be Atlanta’s Ace, Chris Sale. He’s been just as good this year, posting a 2.75 ERA this year and a 13-3 record to boost.

Jorge Soler and the Braves have now won back to back games at Oracle Park.

Soler’s return to Oracle Park has been kind of mediocre so far. He’s recorded just 1 hit through 2 games, posting a batting average of 0.167 against his former team.

Despite just the 1 hit, Soler hit his bases prop last night with a deep double to center field that was very close to a home run. He’s batting 0.280 against lefties this season and he’s got a 0.279 batting average since joining the Braves. 

Soler’s also batting 0.317 since the All-Star Break with 6 home runs and 18 RBI. His numbers against Robbie Ray are pretty bad but it feels like a day we see Robbie get blown up a little bit. He’s been good this season but bad at home.

Ray’s got a 5.23 ERA through two starts at Oracle Park and he’s given up 5 home runs. Tonight he gets a stacked Braves lineup that does strike out a lot, but they’ve got some big bats.

Soler’s only got 2 more games at Oracle Park so you can bet your ass we’ll be betting two more times.

Everyone and their mother was on Ozuna yesterday and unfortunately he let everyone down. Ozuna went 1/5 with 4 strikeouts and just a single and 1 RBI. He went 0/3 against left hander Kyle Harrison, despite recording a 0.333 batting average against lefties this year.

Ozuna’s batting 0.301 on the season and he’s upped it to 0.306 in the month of August. He’s hit 35 home runs, score 73 runs, and recorded 90 RBI on the season. Ozuna’s having a career year at 33 years old and looks ready for more.

With how good he’s been this year, Ozuna’s struck out 4 times just one other time this year. In the following game he recorded 2 hits on 4 at-bats, and he faces of with Robbie Ray in tonight’s game.
