Friday’s MLB schedule will see the Houston Astros (40-40) and New York Mets (39-39) beginning a three-game series at Citi Field when they collide at 7:10 p.m. ET on Apple TV+.

The Astros extended their winning streak to seven consecutive days with Wednesday’s huge 7-1 win over the Colorado Rockies. Meanwhile, the Mets are hunting for a fourth win in a row after sweeping the New York Yankees in the first half of the Subway Series.

Is another win in store for Houston? Or will New York get the last laugh at home?

This evening’s contest is also ripe with MLB betting opportunities, so let’s highlight a few as we dive into my Astros vs. Mets predictions and best bets.

Astros vs Mets Predictions & MLB Picks Today (6/28)

MLB enthusiasts should be in for a treat when these clubs collide for some inter-league actions in Queens, NY. After all, both sides have been among the Majors’ better teams in recent weeks.

As mentioned before, the Astros have amassed seven consecutive wins ahead of tonight’s contest. They outscored those opponents 48-20 along the way, which included holding the last four foes to five combined runs. That’s without mentioning how Houston is also 9-1 SU in its last 10 meetings against New York.

Having said that, the current version of the Mets shouldn’t be underestimated. The current version of the Mets has been racking up wins left and right as they’ve gone 15-4 SU since June 3 with their 78.9% winning percentage ranking No. 1 in the MLB.

When it comes to offensive production during that stretch, New York ranks third in runs, seventh in hits, third in home runs and RBIs, and first in on-base plus slugging percentage.

The Mets’ bats have been a consistent presence throughout June.

Tonight’s contest marks the 18th time this season that the Mets are underdogs at home. They’ve played to mixed results in the role thus far, going 8-9 SU (47.1%). Conversely, the Astros are only 8-13 SU (38.1%) as the road favorites in 2024.

Nevertheless, the Astros have a great shot at victory whenever Ronel Blanco makes an appearance. The 30-year-0ld veteran has been tough to face in his last three starts, having gone 3-0 with a 0.90 ERA while racking up 20 strikeouts in as many innings with only seven hits allowed.

Meanwhile, Houston’s lineup must face Mets LHP Jose Quintana. The former All-Star southpaw has turned things around following a rocky start to the campaign. He’s allowed just two earned runs across 12 1/3 innings in his last two starts, tallying 14 strikeouts and three walks along the way.

Mets LHP Jose Quintana has looked like his old self in recent appearances.

This game could go either way, but I’ll take the Astros on the road. They’ve had the Mets’ number for quite some time now and swept the last two-game series they had at Citi Field. Throw in the fact that New York is only 7-10 SU in inter-league matchups this season and it’s even easier to see Houston escaping with the win.

Still, the Under on the 8.5-run total is my preferred bet. For starters, the Under is 13-3 in the last 16 clashes between these two clubs at Citi Field. The Under is also 25-18 for New York at home this season while being 25-11-1 in Houston’s road tilts.

With both Blanco and Quintana pitching well lately, it’s more likely that we won’t see a ton of runs tonight.

Best Astros vs Mets MLB Player Prop (6/28)

After some thinking, Jose Altuve o1.5 total bases (+117) stands out as the best available Astros vs. Mets player prop tonight.

Altuve has been playing some of his best baseball of the season lately. The former AL MVP is slashing .368/.394/.559 with 25 hits, four doubles, three home runs, and 14 RBIs in his last 16 games, playing a big role in Houston’s 11-5 SU record in those contests. He amassed 38 total bases during that stretch (2.4 per game), finishing with the Over 10 times — including in each of his last three outings.

Considering how he’s slashing .337/.378/.481 against left-handed starters this season, I see Altuve having a productive night against Quintana.
