NFL Betting 2024: Defensive Player of the Year Odds Favor Parsons Over Watt, Garrett
These 2024 NFL Defensive Player of the Year predictions, odds, and best bets are brought to you by various sportsbooks, including BetOnline. BetOnline is a market leader in sports betting, offering various options from the 2024 NFL futures to World Series markets and everything in between.
The middle of August is the perfect time to look at NFL futures betting markets now that the 2024 season is less than a month away. After your friends at Betting News looked at the Offensive Player of the Year race yesterday, it’s time to look at how the Defensive Player of the Year picture is shaping up.
Last year’s award was won by Cleveland Browns defensive end Myles Garrett, who had the most dominant performance of his career. Only three players have won the DPOY award in back-to-back seasons, though, leaving time to tell if Garrett will be the fourth to join the list.
In the meantime, let’s look at the latest 2024 NFL Defensive Player of the Year awards, as well as two of my predictions and a dark horse pick.

NFL Defensive Player of the Year Predictions
Just like with yesterday’s DPOY picks, my 2024 NFL Defensive Player of the Year predictions will feature two picks that I’m quite confident in, as well as a dark horse selection.
Micah Parsons (+550)
The betting favorite doesn’t always take home the gold, but it’s hard to argue against Micah Parsons in this situation.
The Dallas Cowboys superstar has been an elite presence in the Lone Star State ever since being drafted 12th overall in 2021. During the last three seasons, Parsons ranks fourth among his peers with 40.5 sacks and just recorded a career-high total of 14.0 last year.
It also isn’t just Cowboys fans who are hyping up the 25-year-old game-changer. Parsons’ accolade list is already quite lengthy as it features three Pro Bowl appearances, a trio of All-Pro nods, and the 2021 Defensive Rookie of the Year award. That’s without mentioning how he’s finished third or better in the DPOY race each season.
Now that he’s poised to enter his prime this fall, I won’t be shocked if Parsons cements himself as the NFL’s No. 1 defender.

Maxx Crosby (+700)
Las Vegas Raiders DE Maxx Crosby is another player who continues to improve with each passing year.
The former Eastern Michigan product is coming off an impressive 2023 campaign that saw him tally a career-high 14.5 sacks while also pacing leagues in lost yardage tackles (23) for the second consecutive campaign. Not only was the showcase enough to earn his third straight Pro Bowl nod, but it also landed him fourth in the DPOY voting.
Let’s also not forget that Crosby is beloved by analytic specialists. The 26-year-old DE finished last season as Pro Football Focus‘ No. 4 edge defender with an overall grade of 92.1. If that wasn’t impressive enough, his 92.7 run defense grade was the top mark among 112 eligible players at his position.
What also benefits Crosby’s DPOY outlook is the Raiders’ lackluster attack. Crosby will see plenty of opportunities to make his case for this award if the offense can’t stay on the field. Considering how he’s only getting better with age, it might be best to pounce on his current odds before they skyrocket once the regular season begins.

NFL DPOY Dark Horse: Montez Sweat (+3300)
Although one of the favorites tends to win this award, sprinkling some money on a dark horse never hurt anyone. That’s why I recommend keeping an eye on Chicago Bears DE Montez Sweat.
Sweta began the 2023 NFL season with the Washington Commanders, however, he was shipped off to the Bears ahead of the trade deadline. By the time the season ended, the ex-2019 first-rounder had amassed a career-high 12.5 sacks with 38 solo tackles, four defended passes, and three forced fumbles in 17 games. The personal-best performance was good enough to see him earn his first-ever Pro Bowl nomination.
Not only is Sweat on the rise, but his arrival is a big reason why Chicago had one of the best defenses in the second half. After all, the Bears went from allowing 27.3 points per game before the trade to a league-leading 17.9 PPG in the nine contests following the playmaking defender’s arrival.
Now that he’s had a full offseason to acclimate with the team and coaching staff, Sweat could take his game to the next level in 2024.
