Titans sign former Seahawks safety Jamal Adams to one-year contract

Jamal Adams has found a place to continue his career.

NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported that the safety is signing a one-year contract with the Tennessee Titans. This is largely a prove-it deal for the former first-round pick.

The team later confirmed the signing.

Recently, Adams’ career hasn’t been very active. He’s only played in a total of 10 games over the past two seasons and hasn’t made a significant impact since the 2021 season. During that season, he completed 87 tackles, deflected five passes, made four tackles for loss, and had two interceptions in 12 games.

As Adams nears his 29th birthday in October, it’s evident that the Seahawks have no intention of retaining the safety player. Seattle had previously traded multiple first-round picks to the Jets for Adams in 2020. However, Adams was left to seek employment elsewhere.

Adams has finally signed a deal with the Titans in Nashville after a lengthy free agency period that started in early March. The offer came from Titans general manager Ran Carthon, a known entity to Adams, whose father Maurice was a teammate of Adams’ father in the NFL during the mid-to-late 1980s.

Adams fits into a Titans defense that is surprisingly fascinating, at least on paper. Established names like Jeffery Simmons and L’Jarius Sneed headline it, but Carthon’s recent work is visible throughout, with Adams joining a group that also welcomed Chidobe Awuzie, Kenneth Murray and Arden Key in the offseason, as well as massive Texas defensive tackle T’Vondre Sweat, who joins the Titans via a second-round pick in April’s draft.

It somewhat resembles a team embracing hired soldiers, but given the Titans’ experience last season, there couldn’t be a more fitting time to invite a group of seasoned players to a team that requires guidance. Provided Adams maintains his health, he ought to be capable of offering such support.
