Raiders release veteran CB Marcus Peters after 12 games

Benched on Sunday, defensive back Marcus Peters is leaving Las Vegas on Monday.

Peters, who watched the majority of the Las Vegas Raiders’ loss to the Kansas City Chiefs from the sidelines, is being released by the team, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported Monday, per a source. Raiders interim head coach Antonio Pierce announced the news of Peters’ release on Monday, and that of safety Roderic Teamer, who was arrested on DUI charges Saturday night.

Peters, 30, was sidelined midway through the second quarter after a poorly executed tackle and was observed having a short exchange with Pierce on the sideline.

Pierce stated post-game that Peters, who only played 20 snaps, did not return due to a “coach’s decision”. However, he did not provide further details.

The decision to sever ties with Peters on Monday, however, speaks volumes.

The player, who has been a Pro Bowler three times and an All-Pro twice, has had a difficult season, especially in run defense. Peters is considering joining a fifth career team, having already played for the Kansas City Chiefs, Los Angeles Rams, and Baltimore Ravens.

This season, Peters has made 43 tackles, broken up five passes, and intercepted one for a 75-yard touchdown return against the Detroit Lions in his 12 starts for the Raiders.
