Packers, DL Kenny Clark agree to three-year, $64 million contract extension
Green Bay is securing one of its Pro Bowlers for an extended period.
The Packers and nose tackle Kenny Clark have agreed to terms on a three-year, $64 million contract extension, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported on Sunday, per sources. Clark will now earn $29 million for the 2024 season, Rapoport added.
The team later announced the extension, which is Clark’s second with the team after signing his first in 2020.
Clark has just completed his third Pro Bowl season in the last five NFL seasons. He achieved a career-best 7.5 sacks and 16 quarterback hits in the 17 games he played in 2023. This season was one of the best in Clark’s career, where he served as a cornerstone of the Green Bay defense throughout the season, being recognized as one of the top interior linemen in the league.
The recent playoff performances of the Packers have partially depended on the constant presence of the 28-year-old player. Clark has started less than 16 games in a season only once since 2019, his inaugural Pro Bowl season. In the upcoming year, he will have a new deal and a new voice guiding him – Jeff Hafley, the defensive coordinator, who joined the team this offseason.
Green Bay securing Clark under contract means the club can now shift its focus to signing quarterback Jordan Love to a long-term deal. The Packers would like to extend Love before the season with the QB market seemingly climbing after each signing. Lions QB Jared Goff and Jaguars signal-caller Trevor Lawrence both inked contract extensions in previous months.
Clark can focus on preparing for the 2024 season without any concerns about security beyond this year, now that the training camp has started in Green Bay.
