Metro Select Saints win Boys 15U title at NFL Flag Championships

CANTON — July 21, 2024 — In the NFL Flag Championships, Landon Brazzell converted a short pass from Eli Frye into a 43-yard touchdown, demonstrating some elusive maneuvers. This led their team, the Metro Select Saints, to a 38-13 victory over the Lockdown Legends Titans on Sunday, earning them the Boys 15U trophy.
The game took place at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium in Canton, Ohio, and was broadcasted to a national television audience.
Following his impressive all-around performance, Daniel Berry of the Saints was named game MVP.
The pitch-and-catch from Frye to Brazzell extended Metro Select’s lead to 26-13 in a game characterized by several long scoring plays.
Lockdown Legends started off strong, scoring from their first possession. They managed to convert a fourth down, and later gained an advantage from a defensive pass interference call in the end zone. This led to a 1-yard scoring pass from Peyton Dickerson to Ezra Golin.
Metro Select reacted promptly. Frye connected with Daniel Berry on a 30-yard pass for the equalizing touchdown. On the subsequent possession by Lockdown Legends, Berry intercepted Dickerson’s pass and ran it back 43 yards for the leading touchdown.
Dickerson spearheaded a drive that culminated in a 7-yard touchdown pass to R.C. Davis. The game’s first successful conversion resulted in the Titans taking the lead with a score of 13-12.
Metro Select went into intermission leading, thanks to an over-the-shoulder 27-yard touchdown catch by Audric Williams from Frye in the final minute of the half.
The Saints refused to give up the lead.
Berry intercepted another pass during a “Hail Mary” attempt to conclude the first half. He intercepted a third time later in the second half as the Saints embarked on a scoring spree, which included his 3-yard touchdown reception and another touchdown for Frye from a 7-yard pass to Williams.
Frye completed all 10 of his passes for a total of 160 yards and scored five touchdowns.
Dickerson successfully completed 18 out of 28 passes for 163 yards and two touchdowns, while Davis caught eight passes for a total of 100 yards.
Semifinals
Lockdown Legends Titans 32, Loudon Legends Steelers 20
The Lockdown Legends established a 13-0 lead and maintained it to reach the finals. Dickerson successfully made 19 out of 24 throws for 229 yards and five touchdowns.
Davis racked up 101 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns. Gavin Macias snagged five passes, amassing 63 yards and scoring two touchdowns.
Julian Marza threw for 135 yards and three touchdowns for Loudon. Kabir Rajpal made two scores from six catches, totaling 79 yards.
Metro Select Saints 13, Tucson Turf Cardinals 6
Berry made scores with 5- and 16-yard runs in the first half. The second scoring play, just before the break, resulted in a 13-0 lead at halftime.
Tucson Turf narrowed the gap when Jake Rogers threw a 3-yard touchdown pass to Sean Roebuck with 4:28 left in the game. They managed to connect on a last-ditch pass on the final play, but Roebuck’s effort to dodge a tackle made him step out of bounds at the 2-yard line just as time ran out.
Frye successfully executed 14 passes out of 20 for a total of 126 yards. Berry received four passes, accumulating 48 yards.
Rogers successfully completed 11 out of 14 passes, covering a distance of 116 yards. Sidney, Zerek managed to receive the ball five times, accumulating a total of 58 yards. Roebuck achieved 36 yards through his four catches.
