Chiefs Decision Makers
Chairman and CEO: Clark Hunt
President: Mark Donovan
General Manager: Brett Veach
Head Coach: Andy Reid
Brett Veach
Veach was elevated to the position of Chiefs GM in July 2017.
– 2015-17: KC Co-Dir. of Player Personnel
2013-14: Personnel Analyst for KC Professional and College
Chiefs Draft Notes since 2018
– 41 total players selected
2 Pro Bowlers have been selected – Mecole Hardman as KR and Creed Humphrey as center.
Trent McDuffie, a cornerback, was an All-Pro selection and was the 21st overall pick in 2022. This is noteworthy as it is the only pick higher than No. 30 overall that has been made under the general management of Veach for Kansas City.
Veach was not the General Manager of the Chiefs during the 2017 Draft.
Veach, Co-Director of PP, had a significant role in scouting Patrick Mahomes.
Veach reportedly referred to Mahomes as “the greatest player I’ve ever seen” before the 2017 NFL Draft.
Kansas City traded with Buffalo to secure the No. 10 pick and select Mahomes.
Under Veach’s 7-season tenure as the General Manager, the Kansas City Chiefs have consistently clinched the AFC West title. With an impressive 85-30 win-loss record (.739 win percent), they boast the best performance in the NFL during this period.
KC has reached the AFC Championship in each of the past six seasons, and during this period, they have won three Super Bowls.
The Chiefs, with Veach as GM, have secured victory in 3 Super Bowls.
Champions of Super Bowl LIV, LVII, and LVIII
Also made an appearance in Super Bowl LV but lost to Tampa Bay (TB).
KC has utilized their last three first round picks on a player for the defense.
In 2023, DE Felix Anudike-Uzomah, and in 2022, CB Trent McDuffie & DE George Karlaftis.
Running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire, who was the 32nd overall pick in 2020, is the only offensive player that has been drafted in the first round while Veach has been serving as the General Manager.
KC didn’t have a 1st Rd pick in 2021, 2019, or 2018.
The Kansas City Chiefs have not selected a Wide Receiver in the first round of the draft since 2011, when they picked Jonathan Baldwin 26th overall.
In three of the last five drafts, the Kansas City Chiefs used their second-round pick to draft a wide receiver. These players include Rashee Rice in 2023, Skyy Moore in 2022, and Mecole Hardman in 2019.
Under Veach’s management, the only offensive/defensive positions that KC has not selected in the top 3 rounds of the draft are QB and TE.
Tight End Travis Kelce will turn 35 years old on October 5th.
