Jaguars' Tony Khan takes punch, piledriver on 'AEW Dynamite' show

Tony Khan’s involvement in the Jacksonville Jaguars’ obligations for the 2024 NFL Draft could be uncertain.

Khan, the Jags’ chief football strategy officer and the founder, owner and booker of All Elite Wrestling, took a punch to the gut and a “Meltzerdriver” piledriver Wednesday night live on AEW Dynamite from Daily’s Place in Jacksonville, Florida.

Tony’s father, Shad Khan, who also owns the Jaguars, entered the ring to check on his son following the drama.

Of course, it’s all part of a professional wrestling storyline (angle), but Tony Khan’s unprecedented physical involvement in AEW and his father’s appearance added an unexpected realistic touch to the show’s shocking conclusion.

WHAT JUST HAPPENED? Jack Perry puts his hands on AEW CEO & GM, Tony Khan!

The initiation featured Jack Perry, son of the late actor Luke Perry, reuniting with Tony Khan in the ring after his actual suspension had been lifted. Perry had recently made a comeback to AEW over the past weekend following his absence due to a genuine backstage dispute with wrestler CM Punk, resulting in Punk’s expulsion from the company.

Once again blurring the lines between storyline and reality on Wednesday, Perry’s staged hug with Khan was just a setup as he struck Khan’s midsection with a microphone, which resulted in knocking down his boss.

Following this, the Young Bucks tag team consisting of brothers Matt and Nick, who also serve as executive vice presidents in the company apart from being on-screen talent, and popular singles star Kazuchika Okada joined the scene and reprimanded Perry. However, this was merely a deception, as Matt grabbed Khan and positioned him for his younger brother Nick to climb the top rope, execute a front flip and subsequently plummet down to strike the defenseless Khan.

As expected, Khan was well protected in the maneuver by the Bucks, who have been highly respected in the business for almost twenty years.

What unfolds next could come Saturday in AEW’s weekly Collision and Rampage offerings.

That’s also the third day of the NFL draft, which begins on Thursday from Detroit with the first round.

The Jaguars currently possess the 17th overall pick. It is yet to be determined if head coach Doug Pederson and general manager Trent Baalke can rely on Tony Khan’s recovery from the horrific assault by Perry and the Young Bucks in Duval on Wednesday.
