Texans Draft Notes (*Past 3 Drafts)*

– 23 total players selected (13 offense, 10 defense)

– Chose the Offensive and Defensive Rookies of the Year in the first round of the 2023 Draft – quarterback C.J. Stroud and outside linebacker Will Anderson Jr, who were the second and third overall picks, respectively.

Over the last two Drafts, there were four 1st-round picks: Stroud and Anderson Jr. in 2023, and cornerback Derek Stingley Jr. and guard Kenyon Green in 2022.

The 2023 Texans were one of three teams to have chosen both the Offensive and Defensive Rookie of the Year in the same class since 1970. The other two teams were the 2017 New Orleans and 2022 New York Jets.

In 2023, the quarterback C.J. Stroud, who is the 2nd overall, averaged 273.9 passing yards per game, ranking him 2nd among quarterbacks.

In 2023, Outside Linebacker Will Anderson Jr. (No. 3 overall) racked up 7.0 sacks and tied for the team high with 22 quarterback hits.

The Texans experienced a significant turnaround in 2023, making the playoffs with a 10-7 record. This was a notable improvement from their 7-26-1 record in the 2021-2022 seasons, which were Caserio’s first two seasons as the General Manager of the Houston team.

In 2023, Houston won the Wild Card round against Cleveland but lost the Divisional Round in Baltimore.

The Texans are without a 1st Round Pick in the 2024 Draft.

Swapped the 27th overall pick to ARI (this trade happened on the first day of the 2023 Draft; moved up from the 12th overall pick to the 3rd for Will Anderson Jr).

The No. 23 overall pick, which was acquired from the Cleveland Browns through the Watson trade, was traded to the Minnesota Vikings in exchange for their 2nd round pick (No. 42) and 6th round pick (No. 188) of 2024, as well as their 2nd round pick of 2025.

This offseason, the Texans acquired former Bills WR Stefon Diggs through a trade.

Traded 2025 2nd Round pick for Diggs, 2024 6th Round (No. 189) and 2025 5th Round pick.

Since 2020, Diggs, at the age of 30, has led the NFL with 445 receptions.

In each of his three drafts as GM with the Texans, Caserio has selected a wide receiver within the first three rounds.

Tank Dell was drafted in the 3rd Round in 2023, John Metchie was drafted in the 2nd Round in 2022, and Nico Collins was drafted in the 3rd Round in 2021.

Caserio has selected top 3 round picks for every defensive position except interior DL in the last three NFL drafts.
