Texans Draft Notes (*Past 3 Drafts)*

– 23 total players selected (13 offense, 10 defense)

Chose the Offensive and Defensive Rookie of the Year in the first round of the 2023 Draft – quarterback C.J. Stroud and outside linebacker Will Anderson Jr, who were the second and third overall picks respectively.

Stroud and Anderson Jr. were the four 1st-round picks from the last two drafts, selected in 2023. Meanwhile, CB Derek Stingley Jr. and G Kenyon Green were picked in 2022.

In 2023, the Texans became one of only three teams since 1970 to choose both the Offensive and Defensive Rookie of the Year in the same class. The only other times this happened was with the New Orleans team in 2017 and the New York Jets in 2022.

In 2023, quarterback C.J. Stroud, who was ranked 2nd overall, averaged 273.9 passing yards per game, placing him second among quarterbacks.

In 2023, outside linebacker Will Anderson Jr., who was the No. 3 overall pick, achieved 7.0 sacks and tied the team high with 22 quarterback hits.

In 2023, the Texans, with a 10-7 record, made it to the playoffs. This was a significant improvement from their 7-26-1 record in 2021-2022, marking Caserio’s first two seasons as the General Manager for Houston.

In 2023, Houston won the Wild Card Round against Cleveland but lost the Divisional Round at Baltimore.

The Texans lack a 1st Round Pick in the 2024 Draft.

Swapped No. 27 overall with ARI (this trade took place on the first day of the 2023 Draft; upgraded from No. 12 overall to No. 3 to acquire Will Anderson Jr.)

Swapped the No. 23 overall pick (acquired from the Cleveland Browns in the Watson trade) with the Minnesota Vikings for a 2024 2nd round pick (No. 42), a 2024 6th round pick (No. 188), and a 2025 2nd round pick.

This offseason, the Texans made a trade for Stefon Diggs, a former wide receiver for the Bills.

Traded 2025 2nd Round pick in exchange for Diggs, 2024 6th Round (No. 189) and 2025 5th Round pick.

Since 2020, Diggs, at the age of 30, has led the NFL with 445 receptions.

In each of his three drafts as the Texans’ GM, Caserio has chosen a wide receiver within the first three rounds.

Tank Dell was drafted in the 3rd round in 2023, John Metchie was drafted in the 2nd round in 2022, and Nico Collins was drafted in the 3rd round in 2021.

Caserio has chosen a top 3 round pick for every defensive position in the last three NFL Drafts, with the exception of the interior DL.
