Former Commanders TE Logan Thomas expected to sign with 49ers
Logan Thomas is heading back out west, and he’s heading to a contender.
Mike Garafolo, NFL Network Insider, reported on Monday afternoon that Thomas is in the final stages of closing a deal with the San Francisco 49ers.
A 2014 NFL Draft fourth-round selection of the Arizona Cardinals, the tight end is returning to the NFC West to provide some depth behind standout TE George Kittle for the two-time reigning division champs.
Thomas, 32, had been a fixture in the Washington Commanders’ starting lineup over the previous four seasons. However, he has seen different leagues, with stints at the Cards, Miami Dolphins, New York Giants, Detroit Lions, and Buffalo Bills before settling in Washington.
Thomas, having his most successful season statistically in his 2020 Commanders campaign with 72 catches, 670 yards, and six touchdowns, is now coming after a 2023 season where he started 15 games, made 55 receptions, 496 yards, and scored four touchdowns.
The 49ers, who already boast one of the NFL’s best and deepest wide receiver corps, are now bolstering their team by adding veteran depth behind one of the top tight ends in the game.
