Cowboys CB Trevon Diggs (knee) removed from PUP list

Trevon Diggs‘ short stay on the physically unable to perform list is over.

The Dallas Cowboys removed the star cornerback from the PUP list on Tuesday, making him eligible to practice.

The two-time Pro Bowl corner began camp on PUP due to a long recovery from a torn ACL suffered in practice in late September. With such a lengthy road available, Diggs only needed a few days to clear whatever benchmarks remained before he could return to action.

How Dallas plans to acclimate Diggs to the practice field remains to be seen — on Tuesday, head coach Mike McCarthy did note Diggs will stay in his rehab program — but the corner’s return from PUP at such an early stage of training camp is a great sign.

“We’re in a return-to-play mode,” McCarthy said this past Sunday of Diggs. “I don’t have an exact date or timeline, but really, it’s the same answer I gave you back in the spring. We’re going to be smart with him. He looks great. I think if he was standing here, he’d tell you he’d be ready to go. Caution is probably, from my chair, the way I look at it.”

With more than a month to go until the start of the season, the Cowboys have no reason to rush any aspect of Diggs’ participation in camp. He’s already cleared one of the most important hurdles.
