Commanders kicker Brandon McManus, Jaguars are being sued in civil court
The Washington Commanders said Monday they were made aware of a lawsuit filed in civil court last week against kicker Brandon McManus, and the Jacksonville Jaguars acknowledged they are also being sued.
The spokesperson for the Commanders stated that the team is investigating the situation and has been in contact with McManus’ agent and the NFL office. The spokesperson added, “Allegations of this kind are taken very seriously by us.”
Two women are reportedly suing McManus for sexually assaulting them during a charter flight to London last year while he was playing for the Jaguars, ESPN reported. The Jaguars stated that they are aware of the complaint and the gravity of the allegations being made.
The Jaguars emphasized in their statement that, as they continue their investigation, they firmly insist on an organization constituted by individuals who embody their community and game with the utmost character and class.
ESPN reports, referencing unpublished court documents from Duval County’s public records database, that two women, named as Jane Doe I and Jane Doe II, allege McManus made inappropriate physical contact with them during a flight. They also accuse the Jaguars of negligence in providing a safe environment for their staff. The women are demanding over $1 million in damages and request a jury trial, as per ESPN.
“Absolutely fictitious and demonstrably false allegations,” is how McManus’ lawyer described them.
Brett R. Gallaway of McLaughlin & Stern expressed their firm’s intention to vigorously protect Brandon’s rights and reputation. They plan to clear his name by revealing the true nature of these allegations as an attempt at extortion, according to a statement delivered to The Associated Press.
McManus, set to turn 33 in July, inked a deal with Washington in March. The Philly native has a decade long experience in the league, spending his initial nine seasons with the Denver Broncos after his stint at Temple.
