Colts OG Quenton Nelson on 'ginormous' Anthony Richardson: 'He's an absolute freak'

Indianapolis Colts six-time Pro Bowl guard Quenton Nelson has blocked for Andrew Luck, Jacoby Brissett, Philip Rivers, Carson Wentz and Matt Ryan. Yet his current starting quarterback, Anthony Richardson, brings a different element.

Joining the Bussin’ With The Boys podcast, Nelson gushed about Richardson’s ability to sling the pigskin and how the quarterback approaches the job.

“He’s an absolute freak,” Nelson said of Richardson. “Like he’s weighing in after practice at like 250 pounds. He’s ginormous. He can launch the ball and be accurate with it, too. The plays that he can make, some of the ones you’ve seen, the flashes of it. It’s like, oh my goodness, this guy is special. Also, how he goes about his business. He’s not very vocal, I’d say, but he goes about his business in a way that he’s handling it, and he’s ready at all times. Yeah, he’s a special dude.”

Richardson flashed those freak attributes during his rookie campaign. Unfortunately, his season ended due to injury after just four starts. Health is the key moving forward.

Richardson missed portions of mandatory minicamp with what he called a “little” soreness. The Colts insisted the breaks this offseason were precautionary, and general manager Chris Ballard said A-Rich would be full-go for training camp.

If Richardson can stay healthy for 17 games and continues to develop at the rate he showed as a rookie, the Colts can contend for their first AFC South title since 2014.
