2023 NFL season, Week 6: Notable injuries, news from Sunday's games
Here are the injuries and news we’re monitoring around the league on this Week 6 Sunday:
- Arizona Cardinals cornerback Antonio Hamilton (groin) was ruled out versus the Rams.
- Baltimore Ravens safety Marcus Williams (hamstring) exited in the second half without returning against the Titans. DE Brent Urban (neck) was ruled out against the Titans after exiting in the second quarter. Safety Kyle Hamilton was ejected in the third quarter for a helmet-to-helmet hit on Tennessee’s Chris Moore.
- Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen says that he’ll be “alright” after having X-rays taken on his throwing shoulder. The X-rays didn’t show anything concerning, according to Allen. Running back Damien Harris (neck) was ruled out versus the Giants shortly after being stretchered into an ambulance and driven off the field following a tackle. Harris has movement in his arms and legs and was taken to a hospital for further evaluation, per the team. Head coach Sean McDermott added in his postgame news conference that things are going in a positive direction for Harris. Cornerback Cam Lewis (stinger) did not return.
- Carolina Panthers wide receiver Laviska Shenault Jr. (ankle) was ruled out after being carted to the locker room versus the Dolphins. He is believed to have suffered a high ankle sprain, NFL Network Insider Tom Pelissero reported. Pelissero added that Shenault’s X-rays were negative. Linebacker Yetur Gross-Matos (hamstring) was ruled out. Linebacker Frankie Luvu did not return to the game. Offensive tackle Calvin Throckmorton suffered a calf injury in Sunday’s game, per head coach Frank Reich.
- Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields (right hand) was ruled out in the third quarter of Sunday’s game versus the Vikings. Fields suffered a dislocated thumb and will have an MRI Monday to determine the additional damage, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported, per sources. Head coach Matt Eberflus told reporters that Fields’ X-rays did not show a break. Offensive tackle Nate Davis (ankle) was ruled out. Defensive back Eddie Jackson (foot) did not return.
- Detroit Lions running back David Montgomery (ribs) was ruled out versus the Buccaneers. Montgomery’s X-rays were negative, per Fox’s Pam Oliver.
- Houston Texans safety Eric Murray (knee) was ruled out versus the Saints.
- Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Alec Pierce (shoulder) did not return to the game versus the Jaguars.
- Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence, who suffered a knee injury late in Sunday’s game, said after the game that he feels OK and will get his knee checked out Sunday night. Cornerback Tyson Campbell (hamstring) and right guard Brandon Scherff (ankle) did not return versus the Colts.
- Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo (back) and safety Roderic Teamer (hamstring) were ruled out versus the Patriots.
- Los Angeles Rams running back Ronnie Rivers (knee) and Kyren Williams (ankle) did not return versus the Cardinals.
- Miami Dolphins running back Chris Brooks (ankle) was ruled out after being carted to the locker room in the fourth quarter versus the Panthers. Linebacker Jerome Baker (back) and cornerback Xavien Howard (groin) did not return.
- Minnesota Vikings linebacker Marcus Davenport (ankle) was carted to the locker room in Sunday’s game versus the Bears.
- New England Patriots defensive end Keion White (head) was ruled out versus the Raiders. Linebacker Josh Uche (foot) and cornerback Jonathan Jones (knee) did not return to the game.
- New York Giants offensive tackle Joshua Ezeudu (toe) was ruled out against the Bills. Cornerback Adoree’ Jackson (neck) did not return.
- New York Jets offensive tackle Joe Tippmann (thigh) was ruled out versus the Eagles. Tippmann’s injury might keep him out for a while, per head coach Robert Saleh.
- Philadelphia Eagles offensive tackle Lane Johnson (ankle), cornerback Eli Ricks (knee) and safety Reed Blankenship (ribs) were ruled out versus the Jets. Cornerback Bradley Roby (shoulder) did not return.
- San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey (oblique) and wide receiver Deebo Samuel (shoulder) were ruled out versus the Browns. NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported Samuel’s X-rays on his shoulder were negative. Offensive tackle Trent Williams was wearing a walking on his right foot after Sunday’s loss, NFL Network’s Judy Battista reported. Safety George Odum (thigh) did not return to the game.
- Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield has a contusion on his left hand after Sunday’s game versus the Lions, per head coach Todd Bowles. Mayfield’s X-rays were negative, Bowles added.
- Tennessee Titans quarterback Ryan Tannehill (ankle) exited in the third quarter and did not return. Wide receiver Chris Moore (concussion) was ruled out of the game.
- Washington Commanders defensive end Montez Sweat (thumb) did not return versus the Falcons.
