2023 NFL season, Week 2: Notable injuries, news from Sunday's games
Here are the injuries and news we’re monitoring around the league on this Week 2 Sunday:
- Arizona Cardinals defensive lineman Carlos Watkins (arm) did not return versus the Giants.
- Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. (ankle) was ruled out in the second half of Sunday’s game versus the Bengals. Head coach John Harbaugh said he doesn’t believe the injury is serious.
- Buffalo Bills safety Micah Hyde (hamstring) did not return to the game versus the Raiders.
- Chicago Bears safety Eddie Jackson (foot) was ruled out in the first half of Sunday’s game versus the Buccaneers. Wide receiver Darnell Mooney (knee) did not return to the game.
- Cincinnati Bengals safety Nick Scott was ruled out after being evaluated for a concussion in the second half of Sunday’s game versus the Ravens.
- Dallas Cowboys offensive lineman Zack Martin (ankle) did not return versus the Jets. Martin came out of the game as a precautionary measure after rolling his ankle and is fine, NFL Network’s Jane Slater reported, per a source.
- Denver Broncos safety Kareem Jackson was ejected from Sunday’s game versus the Commanders after a helmet-to-helmet hit on tight end Logan Thomas.
- Detroit Lions running back David Montgomery (thigh) did not return to the game versus the Seahawks. Linebacker James Houston (ankle) was ruled out in the second half of Sunday’s game.
- Green Bay Packers guard Elgton Jenkins (knee) was ruled out in the second half of Sunday’s game versus the Falcons. He is believed to have suffered an MCL sprain, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported, adding that Jenkins will have an MRI to determine the severity of the injury.
- Indianapolis Colts rookie quarterback Anthony Richardson was ruled out with a concussion. Backup Gardner Minshew entered the game in the second quarter versus the Texans. Center Ryan Kelly was evaluated for a concussion and did not return.
- Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Davante Adams was evaluated for a concussion after Sunday’s game versus the Bills.
- Los Angeles Rams guard Joe Noteboom left Sunday’s game with a shoulder injury. Running back Cam Akers was inactive due to a “coach’s decision,” head coach Sean McVay told reporters, adding that it is a different situation to last year when Akers missed games due to personal reasons.
- Miami Dolphins wide receiver Jaylen Waddle was ruled out late in Sunday’s game to be checked for a concussion. Head coach Mike McDaniel said they’d know more about Waddle’s situation on Monday. Running back Salvon Ahmed suffered a groin injury and did not return.
- New England Patriots defensive back Marcus Jones was ruled out due to a shoulder injury in Sunday’s game.
- New York Giants running back Saquon Barkley suffered an apparent leg injury in the fourth quarter of Sunday’s game versus the Cardinals. Offensive lineman Ben Bredeson left with a concussion.
- New York Jets safety Tony Adams (hamstring) was ruled out versus the Cowboys. Cornerback Michael Carter II (elbow) did not return. Linebacker Quincy Williams has a knee injury, head coach Robert Saleh said, but he had no further update.
- Seattle Seahawks cornerback Riq Woolen (chest) did not return to Sunday’s game versus the Lions. Head coach Pete Carroll said Woolen hurt his shoulder a bit, but that he’d be fine.
- Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back Chase Edmonds (knee) was ruled out in the second half of Sunday’s game versus the Bears.
- Washington Commanders tight end Logan Thomas (concussion) was ruled out versus the Broncos.
