The new British and Commonwealth super-middleweight champion Callum Simpson said: “It were amazing. the main thing was to not let the occasion get to me. The mantra was to fight the fight and not the occasion and that’s what we did.
“I showed a bit of inexperience. I’m not really happy with my performance, I made a lot of mistakes but a win’s a win. This is a learning fight and every day’s a school day I’m not the finished article.
“I want to win the British title outright. I saw Mark Jeffers ringside, he’s a great fighter and he deserves a shot. I want to prove I’m the best domestically and then we can push on.”

Judge Victor Loughlin had it 118-111, Michael Alexander 118-110 and Kevin Parker 117-111. The scores are testament to Simpson’s dominance over the 12 rounds. The 27-year-old is building something special in his home town.

Chelli was always there but he was behind from early on and just could not claw anything back. This should be ‘and the new’…

Simpson, 27, is leading here but he has never bee beyond 10 rounds in his career so into new territory we go here. Chelli did 12 to win the belts against Jack Cullen in January but can he find a way to somehow turn this around? A double jab seems to injury Chelli’s eye in the 10th so he has it all to do in the final two.

Another round comes and goes with Chelli, the British and Commonwealth champion, simply unable to land the shot that can turn this fight around. Simpson is ahead here and is now only nine minutes from becoming champion in front of his home fans. Three big rounds incoming.

Chelli’s trainer insistent in. the corner that they will get their reward for hanging in there – but it doesn’t like like Simpson is fading yet. Into round nine we go, now the onus is on Chelli to do more and wrestle back some rounds.

The fourth was Chelli’s best round of the fight as he appears to have weathered that early storm. But there was still very little to choose between to the two in round four and there is still a long way to go.

Simpson, who is feinting well, is starting to time Chelli on the way in with the right uppercut. Chelli looks short of ideas but his cornerman Barry O’Connell reminds him that the plan is to take Simpson into the second half of the fight and then take over.

After a mini crisis in round one, Chelli gets his feet back under him in the second and starts to get behind his jab. He snaps Simpson’s head back with a couple of them as the Barnsley man attempts to press the action. Simpson on top but Chelli isn’t out of this.

With 20 seconds left of the first, Simpson lands with a savage, arcing right hand which sends Chelli stumbling back to the ropes. He does not go down but he’s hanging on for the rest of the round as the crowd roar their man in. The second round could be interesting…

A brief interlude in proceedings as Dubois’ hair comes undone at the back and requires the corner to wrap it back up. That’s about the only moment that has slowed down Dubois across these 10 rounds. Into the final minute we go…

Dubois a mile ahead and with a knockdown in the locker here as we go into the penultimate round. Moneo is getting hit with everything and won’t stop coming, there is no doubting her toughness. Dubois, so far, is simply too good for her, though.

As Moneo marches into range, Dubois releases a big overhand left which lands on the button and drops the visitor. She’s up in time to beat the count and Dubois is unable to find the finish before the round ends. Into the seventh we go.

As it begins to dawn on Moneo that the fight will slip away from her pretty quickly in this rhythm, the Uruguayan visitor begins to get closer to Dubois in a bid to draw her into a firefight. The Londoner, never one to turn down a tear-up, obliges and the pair go head to head in centre ring and slug it out. That’s five down and five to go – Dubois clearly ahead.

Moneo is tending to square up as she attacks and Dubois is picking her off with the backhand on the way in before spinning off, resetting and starting again. Dubois is not out of second gear yet and is still in total control.

Southpaw Dubois, still only 23, is on the verge of a world title shot so can’t afford a slip-up here. The bookies make her a huge favourite here… we are about to get underway.

With an official time of 2:36 in the third, McKenna puts a stop to a spirited effort from Laws after three crazy rounds. The man from Monaghan, Ireland is now 15-0 with 14 quick.
McKenna said: “I expected that, a war from the start. Fair play to Laws. He went in there and gave it a go but nobody can stand with me.
“I just had to keep my cool and stay relaxed. I was getting a bit anxious with the early knockdown. It’s a great fight for me and another knockout.”

McKenna comes out in the third like a new man and goes back to work. Laws goes down three more times and, as Victor Loughlin is delivering his count, the towel comes in from the corner. A classic shootout at Oakwell, with carnage throughout, but it’s McKenna’s class that shines through.

Another three breathless minutes with both men showing absolutely zero interest in throwing jabs and instead winging away with huge hooks with both hands. McKenna is having success but it is Laws who lands the most meaningful shot of the round when another damaging left hook stuns the Irishman.

Laws is dropped inside the first 30 seconds by a big right hook and looks to be hanging on for dear life but with a minute to go, Laws lands with a huge counter left hook which drops McKenna too. The Irishman manages to make it to the end of the round but what does he have left? Into the second we go.

The anticipated 10-rounder between undefeated Stevie McKenna and the livewire Joe Laws is up next. McKenna, 14-0 (13), has predicted a first-round knockout but Laws is adamant he is here to upset the odds. Connor Coyle’s first fight on this side of the pond ends in victory, with referee Mark Lyson scoring it 77-75 in his favour. A useful if uninspiring workout for the Irishman in his first fight for a year against an awkward southpaw in Kyle Lomotey. Job done and onto the next one for ‘The Kid’.

Coyle punctuates another won round by landing a sharp left hook on the counter which momentarily seems to stun Lomotey. But the Lancashire man regroups well and easily navigates through the last minute of the seventh. Into the eighth and final round we go.

Six reasonably uneventful rounds have now gone in this live opener and Coyle looks to be the one forcing the action. He is not quite busy enough to really trouble Lomotey here but he appears in control. Into the last six minutes we go.

Coyle is the one controlling centre-ring, with Lomotey circling around the outside and often spending time with his back against the ropes. Lomotey, however, is doing a good job of just staying out of range but the Irishman is edging ever closer to finding his range and letting his hands go. Coyle finishing the fifth by nearly getting through with a big right hand.

In the first couple of rounds, this fight settled mainly into the pattern of Coyle trying to pin down Lomotey but the Leigh man is just starting to box with a little bit more ambition now. There’s little to choose between the two with orthodox Coyle attempting to find a home for his right hand while Lomotey looks to counter every time.
