The 10 best wins produced by Joe Joyce and Derek Chisora

1) Joyce TKO 11 Joseph Parker (September 2022)

Despite his courage and his best efforts to keep Joyce at bay, New Zealand’s Joseph Parker had no way of dealing with Joyce’s relentless aggression when they shared a ring in September 2022. All over in round 11, Joyce eventually broke Parker’s resolve with a stunning left hook, as good a single shot as he has ever thrown.

2) Joyce KO 10 Daniel Dubois (November 2020)

This was a real breakout win for Joyce, if only because he and Dubois were considered equals at the time; prospects developing at a similar pace. As it turned out, however, Joyce was actually a level above Dubois the night they met in 2020 and would, to the sound of silence in an empty arena, club Dubois to defeat in 10 rounds, prompting many to question whether Dubois, clearly bothered by an eye injury, had quit when the going got tough.

3) Chisora TKO 8 Carlos Takam (July 2018)

Not only is this Chisora’s best win on paper, it is also arguably the most thrilling and dramatic performance of his career – which, given the very nature of his career, is saying something. A step behind Takam for much of it, Chisora would ultimately turn the tables on his rugged French opponent when taking him by surprise with two devastating right hands in round eight.

4) Joyce TKO 6 Carlos Takam (July 2021)

Coming three years after Chisora had stopped Takam in eight rounds, a sixth-round stoppage win for Joyce over the same opponent isn’t quite as impressive. It was, however, still a good win for Joyce, especially as it marked a step up in competition and was a fight he was able to end inside just six rounds.

5) Chisora SD 12 Kubrat Pulev (July 2022)

Even if messy and a hard slog, this was arguably the most vital win of Chisora’s career. After all, with many writing him off and begging him to retire, the last thing Chisora needed when fighting Pulev in 2022 was to prove his critics right and succumb to yet another defeat. That he managed to avoid this fate, regardless of how he did it, represented a success – and a surprise – for the Finchley man.

6) Joyce UD 12 Bryant Jennings (July 2019)

Known for his durability and defensive smarts, it should come as no shock to learn that American Bryant Jennings remains the only man to have taken Joyce the full 12 rounds. He won few of the rounds in the process, of course, but even just surviving Joyce’s pressure and hearing the final bell represented a victory of sorts.

7) Joyce TKO 6 Bermane Stiverne (February 2019)

Although a former WBC heavyweight champion, it is fair to say Bermane Stiverne had seen better days by the time he crossed paths with Joyce in February 2019. That said, Joyce still had to remind him of this, which is precisely what he did, too, chipping away at Stiverne early before taking him out in round six.

8) Chisora TKO 6 Malik Scott (July 2013)

While it is perhaps easy to poke fun at Scott now, with hindsight, it is worth remembering that at the time of fighting Chisora in July 2013 the lanky American was unbeaten in 36 fights and considered something of a prospect. Alas, despite this reputation, Scott was also untested, uncertain, and would find Chisora, who crumpled Scott in round six, a step too far.

9) Chisora KO 2 Artur Szpilka (July 2019)

Chisora’s second-round dismissal of Szpilka in July 2019 was the last time he looked remotely destructive and remains one of the best finishes of his long and turbulent career. Setting about his Polish opponent from the outset, in round two Chisora managed to trap him on the ropes and then end proceedings with a furious volley of punches.

10) Chisora TKO 5 Edmund Gerber (September 2013)

Although not a fashionable win, or even one that has aged particularly well, there is still no denying that at the time of it, a fifth-round stoppage of Gerber to take the vacant European heavyweight title was a good result for Chisora. Gerber, after all, was 23-1 back then and deemed a decent prospect on the German heavyweight boxing scene.
