Chris Eubank Jr signs promotional deal with Boxxer and says “big fights are in the pipeline”

THE unpredictable career of Chris Eubank Jr is on a new path after the British star signed a promotional agreement with Boxxer.

Described as a “major partnership deal” in their press release Eubank Jr will once again be fighting on Sky Sports as he targets big fights which have been inconsistent during his time in the professional ranks.

With his 35th birthday just two months away Eubank will look to be back in the ring soon having not fought since his rematch win over Liam Smith 10 months ago. That victory – with Terence Crawford’s trainer Brian “BoMac” McIntyre in his corner – was a significant one having lost to Smith eight months earlier.

In recent days Eubank, (33-3, 24 KOs), has been linked to a mega-fight against undisputed super-middleweight champion Canelo Alvarez with reports suggesting it is now between the Brit and Edgar Berlanga as to who the Mexican will face next.

“I’m very excited to have signed with BOXXER and Ben Shalom,” Eubank said.

“They fit the direction I want to go in. We have big plans over the next 12 to 24 months. There are big fights in the pipeline and these guys can make it happen. This is a partnership. I have the freedom and the leeway to work how I want to work, which is very rare. I’m in a position of power. I’m in a position to really control the direction that I want to go in so I’m excited.

“I’ve been in the game for 12 years now and I’m still hungry. I’m still excited. I’m still in love with the sport of boxing. I’m in a blessed position right now where there are four or five different names out there that are mega fights that everybody wants to see. Canelo Alvarez, Terence Crawford, Conor Benn, Billy Joe Saunders – and that’s just off the top of my head. There are many more fights out there that can be made, even domestically, so I’m in an exciting position.”

Boxxer CEO Ben Shalom sees his latest signing as one of the “biggest star attractions in boxing” and a “bonafide pay-per-view star”.

“He brings excitement and intrigue wherever he goes,” Shalom said.

“BOXXER is his natural home and I’m incredibly excited to work with Chris to make sure we fully realise his huge potential and fierce ambition. We’ve had the privilege of working with Chris on some massive fight nights in the UK and there will be plenty more to come in the UK and worldwide. The hunger and ambition is there. We can’t wait to see him back in action and involved in some massive fights.”

Eubank’s personality has seen him cross over to a mainstream audience but he still divides opinion amongst boxing fans. Domestic fights against Billy Joe Saunders and George Groves ended in defeat and his biggest wins to date include Liam Smith, Liam Williams and a version of James DeGale that was past his best.

The talent and athletic attributes still remain, however, and this latest promotional agreement must now be used to propel Eubank Jr into the marquee fights that he believes he is good enough to compete in and win.
