Adam Azim officially vacates the European super-lightweight title

THE European super-lightweight title is now vacant after Adam Azim chose to relinquish the belt after a five-month reign.

Today (April 3) purse bids were due for Azim’s next defence against Dalton Smith. But instead, he will face Harlem Eubank in his next fight. The European Boxing Union website has also declared their 140lbs title as vacant.

This past Saturday (March 30) Azim was in the ring for a face-off against Eubank. Despite the head-to-head and both insisting they wanted the fight nothing was confirmed by Azim’s promoter Ben Shalom who was in attendance for the night for his latest Boxxer promotion headlined by the British heavyweight title barnburner between Fabio Wardley and Frazer Clarke.

Later that night Azim’s trainer Shane McGuigan told Boxing News that the Harlem Eubank fight was definitely on and had been signed. On Monday (April 3), Azim announced on Twitter/X he had “officially signed” to fight Eubank. However, a date and venue are still to be announced.

It’s been 11 days since Dalton Smith claimed the biggest scalp on his record after knocking out former world title challenger Jose Zepeda with a body shot in the fifth round of their main event in Sheffield. Afterwards Smith called Azim out, but his promoter Eddie Hearn was confident that Azim would avoid the fight and part ways with his title.

Azim’s run as European champion ends then after 137 days. Last November the 22-year-old outclassed an aging and overmatched Franck Petitjean who was stopped in the 10th round during his own first defence. Azim was also too much for Danish challenger Enock Poulsen in February. The contest ended in the fifth round when Poulsen pulled out having suffered a shoulder injury.
