Dolphins expected to sign pass rusher Jason Pierre-Paul off Saints practice squad
Jason Pierre-Paul‘s comeback is already on its second team.
NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported Monday evening that the Miami Dolphins are anticipated to sign Pierre-Paul from the New Orleans Saints practice squad.
Pierre-Paul essentially confirmed the transaction via Instagram, as he thanked the Saints organization and then wrote he was “coming home” with a Dolphins emoji ending his post.
Pierre-Paul was signed to the Saints’ practice squad on Nov. 16 and recorded two tackles on 17 snaps for New Orleans on Sunday in its loss to the Atlanta Falcons. However, he reverted back to the Saints’ practice squad on Monday, making him eligible to be signed by the Dolphins.
Miami will look for the three-time Pro Bowl defensive end to aid in filling the void left by Jaelan Phillips, who was lost for the season after suffering an Achilles tear in Friday’s win over the New York Jets.
Pierre-Paul will bring Super Bowl and Pro Bowl experience to Vic Fangio’s South Beach defense.
The 34-year-old was chosen in the first round of the 2010 draft by the New York Giants. After playing eight seasons for the Giants, he spent four seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and a year with the Baltimore Ravens before joining the Saints. Pierre-Paul secured a Super Bowl victory each with the Giants and the Bucs.
Pierre-Paul signed with the Ravens a few games into the previous season and began 13 games. He recorded three sacks and 26 tackles.
Pierre-Paul is now departing from the Bayou after a brief visit and is en route to Florida. He aims to enhance the weakened pass rush for the Dolphins, who are currently leading in the AFC East.
