Commanders release K Brandon McManus after sexual assault allegations in lawsuit
The Washington Commanders announced on Sunday that they have released kicker Brandon McManus.
McManus’ release comes a week after news broke that McManus was the subject of a civil lawsuit, in addition to his former team, the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Two women have filed a lawsuit against McManus, accusing him of sexually assaulting them during a charter flight to London last year while he was a player for the Jaguars. The Jaguars acknowledged on May 27 that they were informed about the complaint and understand the gravity of the accusations.
Last week, a spokesperson for the Commanders stated that the team was investigating the situation and had communicated with McManus’ agent and the NFL office. The spokesperson emphasized, “We take allegations of this nature very seriously.”
McManus, set to turn 33 in July, inked a deal with Washington in March. However, following his release, the Commanders presently have no kickers on their roster.
