Chiefs pass rusher Charles Omenihu: ACL rehab a 'slow process' but 'going good'
Charles Omenihu generated seven sacks in 2023, the third-most among Kansas City Chiefs players, despite playing in just 11 regular-season games. The edge rusher earned a sack of Lamar Jackson in the AFC Championship Game but tore his ACL shortly after, missing K.C.’s Super Bowl victory in Las Vegas.
Omenihu recently told Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston that his recovery is going well.
“Things are going well,” Omenihu commented at a youth football camp on Sunday. “It’s a slow process, I was told it would be like this, but so far it’s been decent.”
Typically, players who get injured late in the campaign tend to miss at least the beginning of the subsequent season. A severe injury can sometimes result in missing the entire season or impact a player’s effectiveness upon return. Despite this, Omenihu remains hopeful that upon his return, he’ll be able to contribute to the Chiefs’ pursuit of a third consecutive title.
“Truthfully, at the moment, I’m calm and composed,” stated Omenihu. “It’s necessary for me to maintain this demeanor. I strive to remain grounded, but there will come a time when I’ll step it up.”
The Chiefs are thin on the edge behind George Karlaftis, Michael Danna and Felix Anudike-Uzomah, so anything Omenihu can provide when or if he returns would be a boon to the group. It wouldn’t be a surprise to see K.C. add another veteran at some point to provide depth, given Omenihu’s recovery timeline.
