RB Ezekiel Elliott, Cowboys met Wednesday about possible return

There might be a reunion planned in Dallas.

Running back Ezekiel Elliott and the Dallas Cowboys met Wednesday about a potential return, NFL Network Insiders Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero reported. There is no deal in place, but the parties are in talks.

Elliott just finished a season with the New England Patriots, after spending seven years with the Cowboys, during which he achieved three Pro Bowls and two rushing titles.

Elliott, aged 28, was let go by the ‘Boys last offseason and was picked up by the Pats in August. In 2023, he led the team with 642 rushing yards. Despite averaging 3.5 yards per carry, scoring three touchdowns, and making 51 catches for an extra 313 yards, Elliott is not the formidable player he once was. However, he still presents an interesting prospect.

Elliott, who remains an asset in pass protection and on the goal line, would potentially join a rather barren backfield that currently includes Rico Dowdle, Deuce Vaughn and Royce Freeman.

The Cowboys chose Elliott as the No. 4 overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft. As the 2024 draft begins this Thursday, could a reunion be on the horizon? It’s possible, but currently, it’s just a discussion among former teammates.
