Indiana Fever vs Las Vegas Aces Prediction & Picks (7/2): Champs Strive for Five at Home Against Rising
It was only a matter of time, but the Las Vegas Aces are heating up. Tonight, they will try to pick up their fifth consecutive win as they host Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever (9:30 pm ET, ESPN).
Thanks to their four straight wins, the Aces (10-6) are now 4.5 games behind the New York Liberty (16-3), who currently sit atop the WNBA standings.
With eight games remaining before the league takes a month-long break for the Olympics, the Aces have a chance to cut into that deficit before they welcome the Liberty to Michelob Ultra Arena on August 17 (4:00 pm ET, CBS) in their first game back.
Tonight, the reigning champions face off with Clark and the Fever (8-12) for the second time this season. While they are not as hot as Las Vegas is right now, things are trending up for Indiana, who is 7-4 since a 1-8 start to the season.
Though they may be headed in the right direction, they are expected to be brushed aside tonight, as the Aces are favored by a hefty margin.

Indiana Fever vs Las Vegas Aces Betting Analysis
On Sunday, the Fever picked up their best win of the season as they rallied from a 15-point second half deficit to stun the Phoenix Mercury at the Footprint Center.
In a game of runs, Indiana had the last laugh.
Phoenix led 31-30 in the second quarter, then went on a 22-8 run to take a 53-38 advantage early in the third quarter. Indiana responded by going on a 27-2 run to take a 65-55 lead. The Mercury then turned things around with a 23-7 stretch and were up 78-72 with 3:05 left.
On the next possession, Aliyah Boston, who has taken attempted only 13 three-pointers this season, sank a triple to pull the Fever within three, kickstarting a game-ending, game-clinching 16-4 run for Indiana.
Given that the Mercury have beaten the Lynx, Storm, and Liberty at the Footprint Center this season, that victory for the Fever could prove to be huge going forward, especially since it was their first over a team currently in the top half of the league standings.
A second straight such success is highly unlikely, however. The Aces have tripped up against the Los Angeles Sparks and Atlanta Dream this season, but since Chelsea Gray returned, the champs have recorded four consecutive double-digit victories.
Last Four Games for the Las Vegas Aces
- at Washington Mystics (6/29): won 88-77
- at Chicago Sky (6/27): won 95-83
- vs Connecticut Sun (6/21): won 85-74
- vs Seattle Storm (6/19): won 94-83
On Saturday, they dispatched the Washington Mystics 88-77 in D.C., outscoring the Mystics 21-8 in the fourth quarter and 42-25 in the second half.
That they scored 88 points despite A’ja Wilson (11 points, 4 of 15 FG) and Kelsey Plum (2 points, 1 of 8 FG, 0 of 4 3PT) having their worst games of the season is an ominous sign for the rest of the WNBA. Gray scored a season-high 22 (8 of 9 FG, 3 of 3 3PT, 3 of 3 FT), Tiffany Hayes tied her season high with 17 (5 of 8 FG, 2 of 4 3PT, 5 of 6 FT), and Jackie Young led the way with 26 (8 of 12 FG, 3 of 6 3PT, 7 of 9 FT).
Wilson is averaging 25.9 PPG and 11.6 RPG at home this season, while Plum is averaging 20.6 PPG and shooting 37.2% from three at home. When the Aces and Fever met at Michelob Ultra Arena on May 25, Wilson (29 points, 12 of 18 FG, 15 rebounds) and Plum (20 points, seven assists) were two of the top performers in a 99-80 victory.
That was Indiana’s seventh game of the season, and they have been a much better team since. Clark is finding her groove, Boston and Kelsey Mitchell are playing at a high level, and the team appears to be gelling.
That bodes well for the rest of the season and their hope of reaching the WNBA playoffs for the first time since 2016, but it won’t alter their fate tonight at Michelob Ultra Arena.
