Wings vs Sky Prediction & Picks (6/20): Whose Winless Skid Will End in the Windy City?

The Dallas Wings and Chicago Sky are not having a joyful June, but a matchup against one another today means that someone’s losing streak will mercifully come to an end.

In a rare weekday daytime matchup, tip time for today’s contest at Wintrust Arena is set for noon Eastern time.

The Wings (3-10) have dropped eight consecutive games, the most recent being Monday’s 90-78 loss to the Minnesota Lynx. Following today’s game in the Windy City, Dallas will be off to the nation’s capital for a weekend back-to-back with the equally woeful Washington Mystics.

Speaking of the Mystics, they were the opposition for Chicago’s most recent win. Since that 79-71 victory exactly two weeks ago, the Sky (4-9) have lost four straight games. Most recently, they went down 91-83 at Indiana on Sunday in what was the most watched WNBA game since 2001. Overall, Chicago has won only twice in ten games since a 2-1 start to the season.

Whose sad stretch will come to an end—or at least be put on pause for a game—today? The home team is a firm favorite, but should they be?

Dallas Wings vs Chicago Sky Betting Analysis

If you are thinking of touching the spread for this matchup, I caution against doing so for either side.

Injuries have seriously impacted the Wings thus far this season, with Satou Sabally sidelined all season and Natasha Howard on the shelf since the season opener against the Sky.

But Arike Ogunbowale missed Monday’s loss to the Lynx with Achilles soreness and is listed as questionable for today’s game, and Maddy Siegrist, who has stepped into a crucial role for the Wings this season, is out due to a finger injury suffered against Minnesota.

Even if Ogunbowale does return to the floor against Chicago, she hasn’t exactly been on fire recently, outside of last Thursday’s performance against the Seattle Storm. She made only 2 of 15 shots in Saturday’s loss to the Connecticut Sun, and she is shooting only 34.1% from the field and 28% from three in six games this month.

But though the Wings’ last seven losses have come by seven or more points and could be down yet another starter today, the Sky are about the last team to put a lot of faith behind with a spread this size.

They are playing hard and have yet to be beaten by more than 13 points this season, which is noteworthy when you consider that the only other team in the league that can say that is the 13-1 Sun, whose only loss to date is a seven-point loss to the New York Liberty.

But the best move for this matchup is to focus on the total and player props, both of which are rather appealing even if Ogunbowale misses a second straight game.
