As usual, I’m placing a slightly risky bet, but I’m choosing to support the home team, who are perceived as cheaters. They are currently leading the season series 4-3 against the Rangers and have already won 2 out of 3 games in Minute Maid Park. We have seen several games with high scores, with the Astros averaging 4.82 runs per game this year, but scoring 6 runs against the Rangers and 8.33 runs against them when playing at home. Houston has won three consecutive games and 9 out of their last 12 games, including 9 consecutive home wins. They are only 2 games behind the Mariners in the AL West, and I believe they will start this series strong.
Prior to their Wednesday defeat by the Angels, Texas had a five-game winning streak. However, they have had a tough time playing away games this year. Considering this is the last series before a break, I suspect that the Rangers could be mentally checked out, already thinking about their forthcoming vacation. They returned to Texas after their trip to California, but had to head to Houston before they could return home.
Andrew Heaney has faced the Astros twice, during which he allowed 8 runs from 8 hits and 7 walks in a short span of 7.1 innings. Both games resulted in victories for Houston. Despite coming from a strong start, Heaney will be up against the Astros who have the highest team average both at home and overall, indicating they could land several hits and runs against him tonight. Hunter Brown also had a rough start against the Rangers, beginning his season in a slump. However, he has recently made a comeback, winning four consecutive starts and conceding only one run, a solo home run, in 25 innings. I predict he will perform well at home tonight against the Rangers.
